Foundation

An adverb modifies a verb, an adjective or another adverb. It never modifies a noun.

Ask what the word is describing. If it is describing an action, it takes -ly; if it is describing a thing, it does not. Everything else in this deck follows from that one question.

She drives carefully and is a careful driver.

Where it bites

After a verb, where either could stand. 'He spoke quick' and 'the train runs regular' are both planted forms of this error.
